Normális demokráciákban is előfordul, hogy nem a választói véleményeket egyébként artikulálni hivatott pártok, hanem civilek kezdeményeznek egy mozgalmat vagy egy egyszerű aláírásgyűjtést.
Magyarország ma nincs abban az állapotban, mint a nyugati típusú demokráciák. Ezért ma különösen fontos, hogy az állampolgárok közösségét érintő ügyekben minél több állampolgár akkor is hallassa a hangját, ha úgy érzi, hogy éppen nincs olyan párt a politikai küzdőtéren, amelynek céljaival maradéktalanul azonosulni tudna.
Politikai célokat azonban hosszú távon csak politikai szerveződések, elsősorban pártok érhetnek el. Abban hiszünk, hogy a mienkhez hasonló civil kezdeményezések elsősorban az ország egészséges közéleti légköre miatt fontosak.
Azért szerveztük ezt az akciót, azért indítottuk ezt a weboldalt, hogy ezáltal is jobban látható legyen: Magyarország nem a múlt legrosszabb kísérteteit életre keltő gazemberek hazája.
Négyünk politikai vonzalmai különböznek egymástól. Van köztünk, aki mindig is konzervatívnak tartotta magát, van, aki liberálisnak, és van, aki a baloldallal rokonszenvez. Közösek vagyunk azonban a modern, európai típusú jogállam és a liberális demokrácia tiszteletében, és mind a négyen úgy gondoljuk, hogy Magyarországnak a szabadság és a kisebbségeket és kisebbségi véleményeket is védelmező demokráciák oldalán a helye. Ne hagyjuk, hogy Magyarországot lelkiismeretlen politikusok és felelőtlen nosztalgiázók visszasüllyesszék a nemzeti katasztrófával végződő Horthy-korszak világába!

This appeal has been written and the collection of signatures organized and initiated by four persons who are not affiliated with any political party.
It is quite customary in functioning democracies, too, for petitions and appeals to be issued by civic groups rather than by parties whose job it is to articulate the views of voters.
Hungary today is not in the same condition as those normally functioning western-type democracies. For that reason it is extremely important that as many citizens as possible make their voice heard on issues of grave importance even if they feel that of the parties currently visible in the political arena there is none which they could fully identify with.
In the long term, though, political goals can be achieved by political organizations only, and particularly by parties. We strongly believe, however, that civic initiatives of the type similar to ours are important from the viewpoint of the healthy political atmosphere of the country.
This operation has been initiated, and the website started, because we wanted to make it apparent that Hungary is not the homeland of crooks bent on resuscitating the most evil spirits of the past.
The political leanings of the four of us are very different from one another’s. Some of us have always thought of themselves as a Conservatives, others are more Liberal in outlook while still others are attracted to the Left. What we share, however, is a deep commitment to a modern European-type liberal democracy and the rule of law, and we are all convinced that Hungary’s place is firmly on the side of democracies protecting freedom and respecting the rights of minorities and minority views. Hungary must not be allowed to sink back into the bygone world of the Horthy era, which ended in national disaster, because of the sheer lack of conscience of some of its politicians and the irresponsibility of the advocates of ignorant nationalistic nostalgia.
